I have known a love
so consuming it surrounds me
seeps into my pores, burns
hotly in the blood that flows in my veins,
and trickles into the very soul of me.
a white hot passion that blazes
across the pages of my memory,
twisting itself into every waking thought,
weaving tightly into the very fibers of my being

I have known a love -
soothing, like a warm blanket
on a chilly winter's night,
folding me safely within its depths,
a contented sigh in midnight silence
that whispers through my dreams
'you are here, you are safe, you are mine.'

I have known the sorrow of loss
that lives darkly in the heart,
the rain of scorching tears
that tattoo flesh and steal breath
with choking sobs of hopelessness,
that strip the eyes' light and shade
the windows to the soul.

I have known sorrow intimately,
succumbed to its caress.
Enticed by its siren song,
I've walked willingly into its ocean,
slid silently into its murky depths,
been drug into its undercurrent
and engulfed by its waves,
yet, it cannot claim me

for I have known a love
so consuming it surrounds me,
seeps into my pores, burns in my blood,
filling my soul with the hope of
infinite tomorrows, and here,
in this vast sea of sorrow,
hope floats
