It’s a rainy,
cold,
unpleasant day.

Felix is just off
middle school, hanging out
down by the Cathedral.

He’s crouched in a corner
along the outside wall,
waiting for the rain to stop,
so he can walk home.

He hopes the sun comes out,
so that he can dry out a little
before he gets home.

Felix is an acolyte there
some Sundays,
and would never think of
ever missing Mass.

He’s just there,
minding his own business.
He’s not doing any harm.

A wild-eyed guy comes up to him.
The man is clutching a Bible
in one hand,
and a small umbrella in the other—
the guy’s not about to share that umbrella.

He asks Felix if he’s saved.
Felix asks—“Huh?”
“Saved from what?”

“Is your soul saved,
are you saved for Jesus Christ?”

The guy goes on, and on,
about Felix’s soul,
and keeps asking
if he’s been saved.

He persistent,
and just won’t stop.

The Bishop drives along in his
big, long limousine,
and sees what’s going down.

He tells Felix to hop in the car.
He drives Felix up to the Rectory,
and gives him a nice mug
of hot chocolate.

He advises Felix
to tell poor lost souls like that,
that he’s a Catholic.

That usually stops the conversation,
and haranguing in its tracks.

Then the Bishop drives Felix home.

Bobby

LOL, I'd have ended this one after the
"Saved from what?" line.

It's "Altar" not "alter."

So, just being curious, do you only write about "Felix?"

“Well all the apostles, they’re sittin’ on the swings, sayin’ I’d sell off my savior for a set of new rings.”

Midnitesun,

Glad you got a kick out of it.  It's based on one of my own experiences.  I caught a cold over the whole thing.

Secondhanddreampoet,

Thanks for reading and commenting.  The bishop is a good guy around here.

Ed,

Thanks for pointing that out.  I've decided on "acolyte".

The present book is named "Felix", in my other two books it's been "Muck" and "Bobby".

I have to agree with Midnightsun as I'd have liked to have seen this poem end after Saved from what?
By the way, I got your books and have been reading them. I've got a few questions and comments but will save those for an e-mail at a later date when I've read a bit more. Thank you by the way

Hoot_owl_rn,

Thanks for reading and commenting.  I don’t think I’ll cut out the part that a number of people don’t like.  Felix and I are very dedicated to the Church and its teachings.  We’re dedicated Cat Lickers, and our tongues are very furry.

Jwesley,

Thanks for the kind words.  I’m pleased you enjoyed it.

James,

There are four possibilities.  The soul can go to Heaven, Purgatory, and then to heaven, or to Hell.  No one wants the last choice.

Limbo is a possibility in question.  It’s for children that have died without Baptism.  No one is too sure about Limbo, principally from Christ’s pronouncement “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them,”*

Mark, 10:14*
