I KNOW WHY THE SPARROW SINGS

I know why the sparrow sings
While early dew still wets the green
Before the earth is stirred by light
And other eyes invade the scene

It sings for seedlings of the field
For ceremonies undisturbed
It sings for its serenity
Inherent freedom of the bird

It twitters out its morning tune
From swollen, puffed and downy breast
And in the rising mist fulfills
Commitment to a hungry nest

It sings for woods and trees and space
To be alive in nature’s bliss
I, too, would sing a morning song
If I were heir to all of this

Elizabeth Santos

~ and you, dear Lady Elizabeth, sing so sweetly to your readers this glorious day!

It's been far too long for my liking, since I heard your poetic voice.

Giving you a warm, loving hug,

Linda

"If I were heir to all of this..."

and yet, aren't we but landlords...
from time to time?

and that, m'dear, is why you care so much...

to keep all as it is, and yet,
to allow growth.

Well done, M'lady Santos!

Oh Liz ... my goodness, I had missed reading your thoughts. Beautiful!

I was sitting outside this morning drinking my cup of tea ... and I heard a wonderful tune being sung off to the right. It took me a while to find the little fella, but there he was, singing his little heart out. It felt like a concert "just for me". Your words summed up the experience perfectly. Loved this.

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit
