Cape Cod Farewell

I must say farewell
To the shores of Cape Cod
Whittled in time
By the fingers of God

Lovely old towns
In which life still remains
Unaltered, untouched
By the currents of change

House of gray shingles
With shutters of red
Harbors old tales
That were New England bred

Of long ago schooners
That skimmed o’er the waves
Now etched  onto scrimshaw
And dug into graves

Of squalls of adversity
Torrents of rain
That pulsed through the air
And a fisherman’s vein

Now pacing the fringe of this
Blue pastel page
Appearing once more on
My small fragile stage

But I have found peace
And despair’s quiet end
On the shores of Cape Cod
In the arms of a friend

When shall I return?
Only seasons will tell
But today, dear Cape Cod
I must bid you farewell

simply superb! [I LOVE this 'write'!]

serious, long-sustained applause!!

[in the fine spirit of "less...is more"...that is all
I shall say...this poem speaks grandly for itself!!]

Nestling arms of Cape Cod
Surely miss their old friend
For with Liz in the fold
Mirthful tides know no end.

Even rains could not stifle
Grand rockets aflare
I am grateful dear friend
For each moment we share...

What a wonderful way to learn that you've arrived home safely, Liz... Thank you for posting this.  I'm smiling...

Welcome home, Liz...
and I'm sure Cape Cod
won't be quite the same
for some time to come,
rockets red, glaring, and all!

ah Elizabeth

you bring this Cape Codder a wee pain of homesickness

what's a Hyannis quahog doing in the desert?
I need to go home for a bit...

this is so lovely

Sure she's smiling and I'm just jealous I bet you two went to the Christmastree Shop and didn't even think of me when you were there, didn't you?

What a lovely portrait of my second home Liz, and it truly is untouched, and that is its charm.

I am jealous, yes I am, and may just have to fix that.

I'm with Sy, Liz ... you have a beautiful touch indeed, and I've surely missed reading your eloquent and flowing words.

I'm glad you let Nan know you were home "poetically" so we could all enjoy you as well. It was so wonderful to speak with you both the other night.

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit

Thank you poet friends for your kind comments. We did NOT, I repeat, did NOT shop at the Christmas Tree Store, only the paint store, but we did see some pretty spectaculaar fire works.
I love cape Cod
I'm so glad to see so many wonderful poets on Passions. And glad to see Sy keeping up with it all
Love'Liz

"Of squalls of adversity
Torrents of rain
That pulsed through the air
And a fisherman’s vein"

Now that is quintessential Cape Cod imagery for me, and I have never been there!

It sounds lovely, Elizabeth. I'm sure you had a wonderful time!  It is one of my desires to travel there and hang out with Nan one of these days.

I've tried emailing you several times. Can you email your new addy if you have one?

Thanks!

Love ya,
Denise
