When November called my name,
I laughed a little each morning, weary with ordinary,
filling each day with jam and toast.
The birds carried their tunes muted across white sky,
onto the heels of December. I followed you, down the hole.
I mocked, you mocked
Did we notice?

It was November…my feast began.
you complied a dream weaving straw into gold,
I am not the miller’s daughter. You asked that I understand
pocketing concerns, tending to the urgency of your sorrow
What gilded time you gave.

Silly little child
rebuked I wrapped myself in doubt.
You handed me my lever, we pulled, the earth swallowed
we did not stop

I marked the day; November still hangs undressed on my wall
smothering the rest in silence;
it bears down its power deafening the cries of the impending;
the gloss shines dull, the days have been eliminated
November is calling.
