It’s pouring rain tonight,
it doesn’t stop the Forth
on the streets of Philly.

It hard for the kids in the street
to light their fuses,
but they succeed.

Nothing can stop the Forth
on the streets of Philly.
Where it really all began.

It sounds like a muffled battlefield.
It’s a great joy to be here.

Thank our troops for that.

Bobby

Yes, thank our troops, for without their
sacrifices, past and present...we would be
without what we have.

Magnus,

Kids in America, here and everywhere, are troops in training on the Forth.

fine (and obviously timely) 'write'!

Applause!!

The 'poems' I posted tonight did not (unfortunately)
reference the 4th. of July; however, they were
written on my exact copy of the portable 'writing desk'
(original now in the Smithsonian of course) that Thomas
Jefferson used in Philly to write the 'Declaration'...
I also find it incredibly interesting (and perhaps somewhat
'spooky') in remembering that Jefferson and my ancestor
(John Adams) both died  on the same day (which was
July 4th...and, exactly the 50th. 'anniversary' of the
signing of the 'Declaration'!)

Secondhanddreampoet,

Thanks for the good words, and for the applause.

Yes, it’s quite a coincidence that they both died on the same day.  As I remember reading, they never got along that well in later life, but they went together at the end--probably to harass each other in heaven.  They are two of my childhood, and for that matter, adulthood heros.  They were gaints.

It's cool you have a copy of that desk.

Paullallady,

The great and interesting thing about it is that setting off fireworks in Philly has been illegal for years.  It doesn't mean a thing.
