          Before the Summer Wind

Run wild and free
before the Summer wind
through the smoky-crimson twilight,
while shimmering mountains
still dance with the setting sun…
for we are but frail ‘time-shadows’
  upon an endless sea;
(lost stardust-shades
  on the tides of eternity)
and all the fleeting hints
  of fame and beauty
shall faster fade...
than a swirling Autumn mist,
to die in the Winter’s crisp
  indifference!

Having no words with which to reply to this amazing, superb writing, in dialogue with it I offer you Shelley's Ozymandias, which so many artists know well, and often by heart:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Bruce, in my humble opinion, this is one of your finest poems. In both word choice and rhythmic flow, it truly defines the parameters of 'magnetic' poetry.
