I was just a girl when an old man said to me
Accept compliments with grace
And if you critique others - do it thoughtfully
It’s true we kill more flies with honey
It’s a cliché that many forget they know

Do you stop to smell a skunk cabbage
Or do you stop to smell a wild rose

Think of correction as a sandwich
And place it gently between words of praise
The words you choose can create feelings
That can hurt others all their days
That old man smiled and patted me on the head

But, years later his words echo inside me
And I still recall all that he said

Accept compliments gracefully
Sometimes a simple thank you does the trick
And voice opinions and critique sparingly
Don’t offer thoughts that cut others to the quick

Maybe it’s better said elsewhere
Within the Golden Rule
Do unto others as you
would have them do unto you

Wonderful thoughts my friend, thoughtful and much appreciated, that is how it should be and I do find most people are kind.
