Salty air blowing kisses across my cheek
Rushing waves like thunder rolling across the atmosphere
I could smell the linens on twin beds, musty from the weather
Rumpled blankets and misplaced feather pillows
from children’s feet crawling through the windows
We sat there on that darkened porch
As the old orange metal glider creaked back and forth
The young and the old
Connected in the stillness
He with his bare chest and feet
A green tinted marine tattoo on his chest
Me with my messy hair and PJ’s
And my awe of the man…
There was nowhere else I wanted to be!
Somewhere beside him on a breezy beach-house porch
Listening to bold waves crash against the sand;
There was no place closer to Heaven…
And I could smell the musty linens—
As fresh to me, as fragrant gardenias below kitchen window sill…
Papaw and me
It’s where I want to be…

You always paint such beautiful pictures with your words. my friend. No exception here. It's the perfect depiction of one of those little slices of life when everything is just as it should be and all is right with the world....

I'm sorry I missed this before...

this?...

"The young and the old
Connected in the stillness
He with his bare chest and feet
A green tinted marine tattoo on his chest
Me with my messy hair and PJ’s
And my awe of the man…"

and feel it...
