Beauty Lost

Where once trees stood tall, stalwart guardians of rolling hills,
Canopies of green hid tea parties and play house tables
And little boys, with bow and arrow branches, climbed to the sky

Where once trees stood tall, sentries to grasses which concealed lovers
Only an occasional whispered giggle disturbed nesting swallows
And secrets were delighted in before first innocence was shared

Where once trees stood tall, constant centennials ever nurturing
Wind created a duet as it buffeted against beckoning limbs
And a haunting song filled woodland groves with eerie melodies

Where once trees stood tall, scarred remnants became testimonials
Of stories soon forgotten, of songs, with no words, left unsung
Memories flew with ashes into the wind,

leaving only silence in their wake.

"Only an occasional whispered giggle disturbed nesting swallows"
Sigh, those are the giggles we hope will stay with us forever.

interesting ‘write’!:

I REALLY like:

“trees (as)...stalwart guardians of rolling hills”

And:

“ haunting song(s) fill(ing) woodland groves...”

as well as:

“Memories   (as) ...ashes in...the wind
leaving only silence in their wake.”

applause!!
