Fireflies

As a child I caught fireflies
And put them in a lie of glass
They were my magic vivify
Aladdin’s lamp but different class

They lit my minds imaginings
That carried me to outer space
The start of all my wonderings
They gifted me a childish grace

At eighty five I catch them still
A firefly of different kind
They are my egos birds of will
That flies beyond my mental find

They light my cup of wishing well
They stir the breathing of my breath
They feed me spoons of purest Mel
To sweeten life before my death

These fireflies are like the sun
There ever there for every one

My goodness T-Man, I still am a firefly catcher! Mind you, the difference now being that I let them go after I have made my temporary lantern!

On a warm summer's night, to the sound of cricket chorals and the scent of grasses and wildflowers, you and I could light the world with our fireflies.

Love & Firefly Light,

EA

Hey Sy, I remember catching fireflies, when I was a little girl (soooo long ago). It wasn't until last summer I saw fireflies. Sure took me back to, when I was a kid.

Fireflies! Oh my, Yes indeed as a chid we all caught fireflies. There does not seem to be as many now. But when my first male grandchild was about seven or eight we use to go out and lay in the camper and look out the screend window to watch them. We did not catch them then. Last year I spotted in a small gift catalog a mason jar fitted with battery and little fake fireflies, and bought and sent one to him. He was as delighed to receive it  as I was to find it. Wishing you many more firefly evenings. martyjo

I remember discovering the magic of fireflies when I was seven.  I think we were in Florida -- and the night was deep black and warm -- I don't remember all that much, but I remember holding a jar and being mesmerized by the firelies darting inside it.  And the joy of releasing them and watching them fly off into the night.

"And put them in a lie of glass"

we kept them in Mason jars
until we felt so guilty
we had to let them fly

thank you for bringing them back Sir Sy

And I enjoy them even more now.
Love to be amongst them.

Funny how we put things in jars when we are so young and empty.
And when we are old and full we just want to let it all go free.

Thank you, Sey.

You are a bit of a firefly yourself, you know.

The fireflies of your mind are shining bright as always, my friend.

When I lived in the country a few years back, I had a beautiful ravine, that was a haven for fireflies. Sharon got to see them first hand when she came down for a visit. You could see them lighting up the whole back yard no matter where you looked. It was like a miniature fireworks display every night at dusk!

A delightful read ... your words have a wonderful spark!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Sy, she forgot to tell you the funny part I had never seen these before and could not believe my eyes, so I tried to catch one, which I did.  Proudly I returned with my catch to Kit and her hubby, only to find out I had the back half of the thing stuck to my hand that is why it was not flying away.  Darn I thought I had a new friend and was going to import them from Ontario to British Columbia.

You are truly a delight - a real spark yourself, yes you are!

I found them!  These were taken at Kit's when Ron, Nan, and I visited her "Firefly Forest," which was absolutely the most incredible experience for me.  The company was not bad either.     Here you go Sy, the real deal!  This was Kit's magical "Firefly Forest" both day and alive at night!  There were literally a GADZILLION "little lights - it was THE most spectacular thing I have ever seen in my entire life!

I was at my Dad's farm the weekend of Father's Day... It had been raining all afternoon and I'll admit... I was feeling more than a little bit lonely.
Then, in early evening, I walked out onto the porch... and fireflies were dancing across the yard... I went to bed delighted instead of forlorn... they give the sorest heart a smile. *S*

This is absolutely lovely, my friend... and it's going into my library. *S*
