Three Feet Above
(a lesson on having faith)

An angel told me once that heaven
is three feet above us, that's odd,
so I climbed up into a tree to see
if I might have a chat with God.

I only saw the top of the house,
the backyard, the greenery,
where was the light and the pearly gates?
Where was God in this scenery?

"Hello God, are you there?" I asked.
"It's me, Dixie. I'd like to talk to you."
Just then, the sun seemed a little closer
and clouds disappeared from out of the blue.

"Well God, I like talking face to face,
so if you're there, come here to me"
and then it began to drizzle, just like that
so I climbed a bit further up the tree

"Well God, I've come closer now, can you see?
Please can you show me where you are?"
The birds flew out and the tree shook
when the winds came rushing from afar.

With the branches creaking and tree swaying
I thought to climb down and get myself dry
"God, I came to you but you turn me away
and I'm not understanding why."

But I climbed still further up to the very top
and sat there as the whole world came to sight
and as I realized the tree was God's hand
holding me tight
the sun came again, I saw the light...

All came still, the birds flew back
the sun shone brightly, just like that,
I climbed down, in the grass I sat...
it took that to get me to see
I'll never need to climb a tree
so that me and God can chat.

Well now...took me a while to get back here (did receive your email) and it was well worth the wait --- this is even BETTER than I remember (showed it to my daughter then and she loved it - need to show her again).

Thank you for reposting this, my friend...won't loose it again (of course, being a man ... hmmmm! - according to my wife)

Loved it then and even more so now.

Been awhile since I pulled this one up, but it's one I've never forgotten and like to kick to the top periodically so all the new PIPers can read it.

Personally, I think it worth the read.

Still love it Dixie!!  Please re-post it in the latest "Open" -- 47 I think.

Very, very beautiful, dear Dixie. Discovered this because I went to see "Today's Topics" and I am glad I did.

It would be nice if you followed Jimmy's advice and posted it again in Open 47.
