The Poet’s Curse

Each morning I set sail
   to find an undiscovered poem
where I can harbor my convictions
and lay anchor midst the foam.
Where I can dive into the language
be it blue or salty verse
and sink down low into the depths
   where lies the Poet’s curse.

And there I’ll fight the deep sea beast
with it’s blank and empty stare
armed with just a fountain pen
   to blunt its ivory stare.
And with only words to raise me
from the darkness of the brine
I’ll pen my strokes to ebb and tide
   until I’ve got a rhyme.

And then I’ll rise to greet the surface
and then swim into the shore
where I’ll walk upon the burning sand
   to find a publisher.
And though the beast could not defy me
or the ocean blue and wide
I’ve found my agent is a pirate
   different title - same insides

And so I go back home and tie my ship up
   tightly to the dock
and go to work to pay my bills
as if cast upon the rocks.
But in the morning I’ll set sail
and I will dance upon the surf
and once again dive deep into the blue
to drown in the Poet’s curse.

This is so wonderful.  I am glad that you are still drowing that Poet's curse and I am glad that you are doing it here.

I love reading your poetry.
