A giggling gaggle of geese
greet me on the road each trip
criss crossing 'twixt river and grassy knoll.
To challenge them for road space is futile.

Have you ever been 'goosed'
by an angry gander?
Suffice it to say,
I remember the day
when I was 5 years old
and was locked outside
my wicked grandmother's house.
She had slyly coaxed me out the kitchen door,
to collect the 'golden' egg
laid in "Goldie's nest" that morning.

Have you ever seen a small frail girl
dragged by her blue gingham britches
screaming in unholy terror,
while "gram-mama" stands like some sordid sentinel
smugly safe behind a locked screen door,
cackling like a sick hen?

Is it any wonder I dare not challenge
to this very day
any geese as to their right-of-way?

I love this -- it made me smile and shiver.  I am terrified of geese - the neighbor's were vicious.  And I am terrified of roosters and chickens (they used to chase me to the outhouse).  I love gaggles of geese from a distance and from the safety of my car.

Thanks for reminding me of gaggle hell.

can you 'Google' geese (then 'take a gander')?!
[as when walking in a manner that is either leisurely
and/or aimless]...just don't gag on gagglephobia...
the fear of being 'gang goosed'!

a fun 'write'!

applause!

my sister had a pair of geese...they are almost equal to watch dogs...
hated them/feared them...they hissed and swore a gozzel (is that a word?)

well done...to me, this was like a sci fi...

LOL, love that reply Lee!
In fact, I am smiling at ALL these replies.
Geese are really cool er... as long as I'm at least 50 feet away when they flap their wings and put their heads down in charging mode.
