Marinated, they are cozied for a fire
While tinder placed for certain start;
the mood set by a choir

A choir of celebration 'tis told,
where riches be the buyer,
Where conversation winds and dines,
The smoke meanders higher.

Sequins dangle, fingers tangle,
The course is finely cooked;
The king and queen play their cards,
endangered pawns turn rook.

At evening's end, the pawns awake with
Smiles, tongue in cheek;
On the spit the stakes remain
'Unmisteakenly', fattened geese.

this is a savored moment...a classic write, entergetic but quiet...soft, elegant....
and then, this...

At evening's end, the pawns awake,
Their smiles tongue in cheek;
On the spit the stakes remain
'Unmisteakenly', fattened geese.

did I mention, I loved this?

poofed me right into reality...
and oh, by the way, you sure fooled me
at first I thought this was going to be a romantic story on the beach...

Lee J.,

   It's so interesting to read how others interpret your work.  You're so right; it very well could lead one to think it was about a romantic evening at the beach.  Oh, shucks!  I finally turned romantic, didn't know it, and messed it up by getting all serious and stuff!  Oh shucks!

   Thanks, Lee for your kindness in taking time to read and comment!  Have a great day!

Cathy,
You know it's a good write when the responses are equally entertaining. But I think Iliana should spill the beans! Pun intended.
