Aurora’s Legend

Late at night while mere mortals sleep
Ocean tides cover castle keep
Far below the grasp of dark sky
Imagination garden reaches high

A world of silence filled with song
Only heard by those who belong
Curtained waves ebb with the tide
Under water-world comes alive

When humans lie in silent sleep
Mermaids awaken way down deep
Silver shimmers from graceful tails
Jewels sparkle among glass fish scales

Long hair of brown, black, gold and red
Dusts the waves, sweeps the coral beds
Joyous music that has no end
Soars above, carried in the wind

Those at rest smile while they dream
Touched by those they have never seen
Mermaids rise from watery lands
Caressing earth with gentle hands

Shells murmur love songs of the sea
Ocean maidens dance gracefully
Sprinkles of scales fall to the sands
Shining lights, woven crystal bands

Like magic carpets flying high
Fingers of light touch onyx sky
Strands of color flirt with the night
Mermaids below enjoy the sight

The horizon shows a light gray
Water women smile, slip away
Diving deep to aquatic land
Offering gifts of ribbon strands

Way above, darkness turns to day
Beckoning lights teasingly play
A magic band, gift from below
Shining down with luminous glow

All gaze at the amazing sight
And name the band ‘The Northern Lights’
Aurora bright, aurora strong
Celebrate the nocturnal song

Though referencing Auroras dancing 'rainbow-lights’; etc...
this is truly a poem of Aurora’s sunrise as well...
[shining so bright it is a ‘child’ of the morning star!]

enjoyed this ‘write’!

particularly loved:

“the grasp of ... sky”;

“Long hair...
Dust(ing) the waves and
sweep(ing) the coral beds(!)...”;

applause!!

paullallady & Mr»ÄlleÿÇät

Thank you both for taking the time to write your thoughts about this poem.  It's still a bit of work in progress as I am not totally happy with the last two lines.  But, I do thank you and am so happy to meet you both on these pages.
