The “Runaway American Dream” (Part IV)

In this land of apocalyptic dreams,
denial of truth, and the demise of
     all reason...
we cannot break the hold
of clock nor hourglass...
and yet, we have broken even
    the mountains’ spirit;
(like the  Pequots’ hearts)
know that Nature holds
more immensurate meaning
in a single Tonka bean, a simple sea
   urchin spine,
or one fine grain of sand,
(near the grand ocean ‘wilderness’)
gleaming beneath a honeyed sunset...
than in all the infinitely imperious
tomes of man laid end to end...
encircling a dying world!

Won't you please consider changing your UserName? There is nothing "second hand" about your poetry, Bruce. This work and all your others, including most recent tankas, are exquisite.

A solitary sea urchin spine sits in silence.
But when several hang out together, they become a 'mighty' force! Listen to the sounds of unity.
