My mom is ninety five and just stopped driving
She sold her car only few months ago
To compensate the loss of independence
Once in a while I ring her up and say "We go"

She's getting all dressed up like a young maiden
She may be old, but she is still coquette
Her device: a lady always stays a lady
She's changing outfits a few times I'll bet

Around the clock of ten I'll pick her up
And she is waving all her friends goodbye
We set off towards the Belgium border
The sun is shining bright in a blue sky

One hour and we'll drive around in France
We take a break and order a "café au lait"
I drink hot choclate with a dot of cream
And we smile because the moment is "parfait"

I drive a van, a big one, sitting high
And she's enjoying all that lovely scenery
On small roads I hope for non oncoming traffic
As I will getting stuck in all that greenery

I have a cooling box, which is filled with goodies
And when it's time, we look for a nice place
I put her in her wheelchair and we picnic
I'm taking pictures of my old mom's happy face

Last time I found a place at a nice river
It was too cold and windy to sit outside
She stayed in and while she ate her lunch
I tried to catch a fish in this water wide

Then we'll drive the little roads back home
We pass memorials from World War two
She says "such a shame that so many had to die
Giving their lifes for my freedom and that of you"

And that is why I love to take my mom
On those picnics every other week
We share thoughts and often humor too
I think my mom of ninety five is just unique

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

so nice a poem to write love between mother and child. Once on airplane a woman of 75 sat beside me and told that she was going to visit her baby. seeing my puzzled face, she said " oh, my son who is 50 years old but still my baby." What a loving mother.

A loving daughter too.

thank you for the sharing. a beautiful poem.

Titia,
How lovely. Please give your mom my love. I miss not seeing her writings on the boards. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Sweetheart, you give a bushel of knuffles to Mummy Muys for all of us...and while you're catching fish, I'll whisk up the batter!

Hugs to you both!

Titia, what a wonderful surprise today, seeing both of you here...and reading your words.

I hope I look as "young" as your mom does when I am over 90.

Yep, Mommy Muys is unique for sure....and so is her daughter!

Thanks for the pics and the update on Mommy. She is daily in the prayers of many here, I'm sure....she is certainly in mine.

Truly enjoyed your poem and the pictures, Titia. Big hugs to your wonderful Mom Muys, who looks great. I'd say she is an example of how life can still bring joy - auch im hohen Alter! Because you both care.
Thank you!
Love,
Margherita
