There comes a time in everyone's life
When they will stand on the edge of insanity

Stand on that impending cliff
And look out over a sea of uncertainty
Blue skies behind
And ahead a swirling kaleidoscope of emotions

While most people shy away from that scene,
Turn and run back to reality,
Others are drawn to it

Those people feel it pulsing through their veins
An exhilarating new drug
That takes hold of them
And pulls them over the edge

They let go of reality
And plunge into the murky depths
Of Insanity

And then there are those few individuals
Who play with insanity

Taunt it,
Sit on that cliff
And dangle their feet over the edge

Leaning over far enough to see
The twisted minds of these psychotic beings,
While still being able
to hold onto parts of reality.

This is who I am.

I live on the verge of insanity

Waiting for that inaugural moment of truth,
To see where I truly belong….

Will I fall over the edge,
Never to return to normality??

very very thought provoking

who is to say, what is reality, and what is illusion?

I think of this oft...

take for instance...van Gough
people thought him insane.  He chose his own career...he was literally banned by his father from his family, then from society, b/c his father wanted him to become a preacher.  Sheesh, is it any wonder he was deemed insane?  Can you imagine, what it would do to anyone?

society dictates what and who belongs...society is not always right...
we live in a society which takes evil and excuses it...yet, bans those who brave not follow from it...???

society is not always right...society deems that you have to be married to be successful.

If you look back in history, society burned woman at the stake for having opinions, calling them witches, and these were men of the cloth...

people are followers afraid of standing up for their own truths....

I've worked with people that climb to the top by screwing other people terribly...to me, that is insane?

I know people that hurt other brutally by juming in and out of relationships one right after the other...to me that is really cruel and none thinking...

but what I think, and feel, someone else might not...whose to say I am right and they are wrong....

hehe, just look at the book your poem has inspired.

This would be a great thread in the forum

What deems insantity?

Trey, when you can write a post that leaves Lee questioning every angle, then in my book, you've done an excellent job.  Very thought provoking, indeed.

Well done.

From one dangler to another....sanity is way over rated anyway.

thank you so much for all your thoughts guys...
my head (as you can all clearly see) isn't all that together these days... i've had bad things happen (such is life), and like many others i'm sure, refuse to fall apart.. and yet i refuse to let it go...
the line "well i miss the comfort in being sad..." (-Kurt Cobain) keeps popping into my head.
It's amazing how comforting pain can feel sometimes.
I guess this is where i'm coming from... but then, who knows??? According to this, i'm (almost) insane!!!

I once tried sanity for half an hour - and it drove me insane!
