Prairie Clouds

Cumulated molecules of moisture gather in to grand giant puffs
Drifting aimless amid the clear blue sky.
Floating at the will of gentle wind currents
Like celestial cotton balls cascading down from heaven.

Suspended high above the level face of the prairie
Trapped between the burning sun and blistered stems of day grass.
Casting down huge dark grey shadows, like giant footsteps
From ballerina whales and wrestling elephants.

Each shadow passes calmly over the endless surface
Bringing a momentary pause to the warmth.
Giving a gentle kiss of cooling refreshment
Providing blissful reprieve, a calm time of rest.

Rolling, tumbling, constantly evolving into new shapes
Traveling on their eternal unknown path.
Growing, shrinking, combining only to separate again,
Some gathering to become more while others dissipate to nothingness.

Simple Blessings ----these cumulous gatherings
       Giving beauty to the sky,
Cooling shadows to the prairie below.
And a blinking revelation beyond the gates of time and space,
Capturing instantly for the awakened observer,
The magnitude of the Creator’s gentle, loving hand.

In the blink of an eye, on a sunny day, with an almost clear sky,
dotted only by dancing clouds, moving gently in the calm breeze;
I have seen, nay experienced from soul depth,
             The shadow of God.
