Where the child can be free

Labors

I feel the weight of heaven and hell
And the choices I've made to find them both
Pressing heavy on my chest.
The years have made it difficult to breathe.
It is labored:
I am labored.

The clocks have stopped; their ticking silenced
Since they served no rational purpose,
As the time is now kept not with hands
But with the echo of footsteps,
My footsteps,
As they thunder.
I see no past that is not future
Or future not past.
All are the sum
Of fleeting presents that I carry
As a trophy and a burden.

Let my eyes see nothing
But the clearest lines
Of light and dark
And my ears hear only
The time of thunder
And my labored breaths

The older you get the more this will ring true, so it is best not even to wear a watch, and just seize every moment as it is given.  Nicely worded.

This is a most fine 'write'!

I particularly love:

"The clocks have stopped; their ticking
   silenced
Since they served no rational purpose,
As the time is now kept not with hands
But with the echo of footsteps,
My footsteps..."

sustained applause!!
