Thump Thump Thump,
it goes on well past midnight.

Thump Thump Thump,
every hot summer night.

Thump Thump Thump,
kids are out in the playground
across the street,
playing basketball.

Thump Thump Thump
It’s not safe for them to go home.
Their Dad’s still awake.

Thump Thump Thump
It doesn’t bother me in the least,
I remember my old man.

Thump Thump Thump
He’d be drunk and dangerous.
You wouldn’t want to be around him.

Thump Thump Thump
He’d be there,
waving his gun around,
scaring Mom half to death.

Thump Thump Thump
Sometimes he’d hit my Mom.

Thump Thump Thump
So, I know what it’s all about.

It’s all about--

Thump Thump Thump
So enjoy your game kids,
and try to stay safe.

Thump Thump Thump

Bobby

SEA,

In some ways, it’s sad, and in some ways, it’s not.  The other kids in the same boat become your new family.  It’s sadder for the girls, who by custom, have to put up with that “stuff” at home.

Drauntz,

Thanks for the kind words.  I’m pleased you enjoyed it.

I understand what you mean, it just feels so sad to me that those kids have no where else to go. Also that home is that bad that they would rather be anywhere else but there.

LeeJ,

Thanks so much for the good words on this.  I’m very pleased you found it strong.

SEA,

Yes, it is a shame in a way.  Things in our world are not always, what they should be.

Midnitesun,

What you say is very true.  It just seems to go on and on.  It’s a major victory for mankind when the cycle of violence is broken.  It takes work, and the kids are working on it, by avoiding it.

brings back memories

of nights trying to find something to do to keep from going home

Passing shadows,

Thanks for reading and commenting.

A lot of us have those memories, don't we?
