traveled southeast today
olive trees
labyrinth walking toward peace of mind
from yesterday words
clam chowder alfresco
merlot with a silky palate
soothed my tongue
left my heart in disarray

reh and petra at next table

eating alone reh asked
ladies should never eat alone
I speak from 78 years of wisdom
ask petra
52 years we eat together

listen
will you be here tomorrow
come
come to mass
hear me sing

he raised his head

cuando salí de Cuba,
dejé mi vida dejé mi amor.
cuando salí de Cuba,
dejé enterrado mi corazón.

when I left Cuba
I left my life
I left my love
when I left Cuba
I buried my heart

people on the street
stopped chatting
walking

oh reh
petra scolded
no one wants to hear you sing

for once in 52 years

petra was wrong

Lady Kate ~ your poetry's first rate!!!

You started this poem off with lines that grabbed my attention at the get-go!

"traveled southeast today
olive trees
labyrinth walking toward peace of mind"

Your words always have a calming effect on me. You write with an appealing and gentle voice. I could read your poetry into forevermore!

Loveya!

Just last week, I was thinking of a couple I once knew and his stories... she'd try to hush him, thinking he was boring us... when we were delighted. *S*

Some things should be heard... especially by those who haven't spent 50 years hearing them. *S*

Thank you for sharing reh's song... what a beautiful write!!

For twice she was right!  Thank you for letting us hear it too.  And for the beautiful images in which it was couched.  The olive trees remind me of Greece, when I went there, oh so long ago.

Hovering over conversations is much
better than eavesdropping...especially
when the smiles widen the circles
and camaraderie.

Well done, Kate.
