standing on a shadow's lace

She Is

I gaze upon
the beautiful face
of the gulf
so much
like a woman
unchanged through time
eyes that shimmer in
salt heal blinking
to flash unforgiving anger
bound to earth merely by
inhale and exhale of tide
rocks crumble
terrain changes
she remains the same
part of her floats
ripped out in raw emotion
rising lightly in laughter
to be cast down
in thunder
broken so deeply
in winds sorrow song
how heavy can
a heart be to fall
and rise phoenixing again
she knows who she is
every drop of it
and in it
she remembers
reaching places
you could never
touch

“but I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish
and I'm sad”…Joni Mitchell
