So you think I'm beautiful?
There's something wrong with your eyes.
If you could only see the pain, I know
you'd tuck your head between your thighs
and wish for a way to run.

I don't show the real me
so the spirit and the laughter
are only on the surface, see,
you don't see what comes after
when I'm home alone.

It's in my genes to remain
uplifting and always dutiful,
and I won't take you home with me
to see I'm not so beautiful

take what you can get for now,
keep those rose-colored glasses on,
but don't fool yourself too hard,
because I'll soon enough be gone.

Just beautiful Dixie and so true about most of us, putting on the happy face, but within crying and so unhappy. I can truly relate to this dear friend and you have put it so well into words. Thanks for sharing, it spoke volumes.

Rick
