Forever In Your Heart

0 posted 2007-05-17 12:48 PM

Days are numbered,
like money spent,
I gambled it all,

Life is a risk,
take it, or die,
die taking it,

Wisdom gained,
too late in the game,
for all is lost,

Fast forward,
place things in order,
and just wait,

Wait to die,
not knowing when,
but sooner than
anticipated,

Plans, hopes, dreams,
have become next days',
twenty-four hours.

Years are now months,
I thought I had nothing,
but when you loose that nothing,
it becomes that something,

Something, you had all along,
and never realized what it was,
until it was too late,

Things cannot be changed,
irreversible, set forward,
no rewind,

Just play and fast forward,
which is better?
to never know when?
or to know?

To be prepared?
or is one ever fully prepared?
or is it best all of a sudden?
quickly, without knowing?

You kill yourself,
trying to live,
while actually liveing,
and when you are dying,
you know you were living
all along....

(Written after visiting a nursing home, filled with people in hospital beds, no one coming to see them, no hope, no love, just waiting to die)

J. M. Barrie, the playwright, may have said it best when he wrote, “God gave us memories so that we might have roses in December.”

Hiya

great to see you writing again....this was sad, as is visiting a nursing home.  I believe people fear old people.  Maybe b/c they know, someday they to will remember to forget.

You are so right, I experienced this with my Mother, she lived three weeks after she told me she had cancer.  This is a beautiful poem, thank you for writing it and reminding me that life is worth living.

Nice writing...Not that long ago I lost my Mom, and more recently I visited a casual friend in a hospice in his last days...
The experiences leave a strong impression...
As they say, live every day as if it were your last...and I say, pursue love and caring and acceptance and forgiveness...
these are the essence of life and the providers of comfort and happiness...James

This is filled with so many truths, it is just a pleasure to read and take notes from, very insightful and food for thought stuff, does make one rethink things and get on with living.

Great to read you again my friend.

.

In Italy they say
at the end of the game
both the pawn and the king
end up in the box
