                           i threw some D'sss

and then some e'sss

and then some other vowels at her to set her mind at ease

                              but to no avail

despite my sell

she still drove away in her new Cadillac

                                with an ease

the belies the shaking in her knees

i thought i saw when i suggested that a break from her freeze

should unthaw our hands long enough for her to turn the keys

                              to our ignition

but despite my petition

her own reserves of inner strength were more than enough for her to begin the next edition

of what i wanted to be our expedition

                                   alone
