Image Of Pain

Imagine if you will
A pain within
That rips at your heart
Then tears at your skin
It’s a terrible legacy
That you have to hide
And so you keep it
Locked tight inside

Imagine this pain
As it slices you through
You can't run away
For it's always with you
A secret so dire
It brands you apart
A permanent reminder
That mars your frail heart

Imagine it now
Stalking you still
Sapping your strength
Breaking your will
The pain is a monster
That wants to be free
But once out of the dark
It rips sanity

Imagine the pain
That pulls you apart
Drinking your blood
Stripping your heart
Whispering secrets
That lie buried down deep
Then when you're alone
They don't let you sleep

Imagine it there
Waiting for you
To forget for a moment
What you have to do
For if you relax
It'll leap from its den
And once it's about
What can you do then?

Imagine the burden
Of holding it there
Deep in your soul
While it hungers for air
Roaring and screaming
It claws at your brain
And so it goes on
Till it drives you insane

Imagine the stillness
If the pain isn't there
No screaming or howling
Did it die in its lair?
How would you beg?
To be free once again
From the terrible secret
That impossible pain

Imagine the yearning
That burns ever within
To find some salvation
From pain’s weary sin
Would you pay any price?
I know I would do
To be free of the pain
Which eats into you

I wrote this poem as a result of the therapy I have been undergoing recently. It is about me, and yes it speaks about abuse that happened in my childhood. I was encouraged to write it by my therapist, then asked to post it by a loving friend who thinks that it may help others. My loving husband Gray, and some truly amazing sisters of heart, whom I simply cannot thank enough for the support and love they give me has helped me through this very difficult period.

I love you all very much, thank you.

very good, very good. It is wonderful to cry out. Yes, childhood pain. Then, there, when suffering, we needed someone to hold us tightly and ask "are you scared?" Yes, we are. We did not have words to express and we did not know how we felt then. The numb.

I am glad that you wrote it out and thank you for sharing.

life can be very bad sometimes but it can be very good sometimes too.

many hugs
love

I would say take a piece of the pain and plant a seed with God, asking him to began a process of healing that will allow you to be released and healed from the pain of your past and to plant a seed of happiness that will live within your heart today and into your future...James

Oh my.  This is powerful, and powerfully disturbing.  I wish you the best.

I would not wish this pain on anyone... but I do believe you speak what many know well... and now they'll know they're not alone.

Powerful, poignant... this is superb!!! All my hopes for your healing, my friend.
