Mermaid Cove

mistakes are something
I can somehow fix
I have fallen from grace
and scraped my knees
words sadly silent only turn
vapor cold the windows
I am not angry or bitter
I just want to be heard
and the lines on my face
are leading to somewhere
age is slowly teaching me
not to stop or be so silent
for even words in regret
are worth the sound
if I do not say them
you will never know
ending up being lines
on page maybe read
you say I press against
the glass looking for romance
I laugh to myself inside
when you say that you have
given up, but still search
for an illusive mermaid
ending up more like me
than you even know
for mermaids don’t live
in a bucket on the shore

“but I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish
and I'm sad”…Joni Mitchell

I was grinning while reading this, it seems the older we get, the more confident we become and the less we watch our words...yanno?

Among the memorable lines you write:

"words sadly silent only turn
vapor cold the windows
. . .
for even words in regret
are worth the sound
. . .
you say I press against
the glass looking for romance
. . .
for mermaids don’t live
in a bucket on the shore
"

Yes, indeed, they are worth the sound.

Helen
you have reached inside my heart tonight
these lines are so exquisite in their pain
