Lullaby Dreams
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

The sandman is sprinkling night-sleep in closed eyes,
As star motes are twinkling in indigo skies.

Wee woolly lambs leap across children’s beds,
While visions of dreamscapes dance in their heads.

The moon smiles down and casts them in glow,
From each precious crown ~ down to each precious toe.

A breeze blows gently thru' open shutters,
And about every child ~ a sleep-fairy flutters.

Angels protect them with their loving wings,
While outside each window ~ a nightingale sings.

The sandman is sprinkling night-sleep in closed eyes,
As star motes are twinkling in indigo skies.

Wee woolly lambs leap across children’s beds,
While visions of dreamscapes dance in their heads.

“We are borne of star dust,
and to the stars we shall one day return.”
~ Linda L. Dowd

Love it,  I also love doing this and feel that this is truly the way we master different rhyming forms of our own,

Now let me think about Seuss....

Ah yes...those childhood days of peaceful sleep and dreams....

deval ~

Wouldn't you know it! A few moments ago I changed the line that you quoted:

"A nighttime breeze blows gently thru’ shutters,
And about every child ~ a sleep-fairy flutters."

TO

"A breeze blows gently thru' open shutters,
And about every child ~ a sleep-fairy flutters."

Writing poetry is like writing music for me ~ nd my beat was off! lol

I appreciate your lovely reply! Thank you for reading my poem!

Lullaby Dreams,

EA

Greetings ~ from my shores to yours!

I enjoy playing around with rhyme schemes but I  end up making lots of changes to get the rhythm just right. I've just made another one.

They don't call me the Edit Queen for nuttin'!

Dream sweetly, this nite!

TOE ~ Where in God's green Alabama have you been hiding?!? I was almost beginning to take it personally!

Ah, I know what drew you back,

"The moon smiles down and casts them in glow,
From each precious crown ~ down to each precious TOE."

Now, regarding your reply... When I read ~

"(much better than when we grow old...toss and turn sleep...dreams of being a school desk and some mean little kid carving his initials on your back)"

I thought you were going to say that you had dreams of being a school desk CHAIR with little girls sitting on your LAP. lol

Even little 'angels' can have a naughty sense of humour! You always seem to do that to me, Bama Man! lol

May you sleep the peaceful sleep of a child ~ safe in angel keep.

(smiles) Although I unfortunately had nightmares throughout much of my childhood, I've been blessed to have had all those precious sorts of dreams in all recent years, both of faeries, unicorns, my dream girl, cosmological journeys, etc. and I believe you can never be too old to be lullabied into lovely dreams, yay! (does happy sandman samba) Yay, here's wishing you sweet angel dreams tonight, dearest friend, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Noah ~

Thankfully, those nightmarish nights are behind you! I occasionally still have one myself ~ and it will linger with me throughout the following day. Like yourself, I dream in great detail and in technicolour, so I am really affected by them. That of course, is a double-edge sword ~ and I love the carry-over of the glorious dreams!

May all your dreams be lullaby sweet!

Love 'n hugs,

Linda
