This Sunny May Morn
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

I arose with the sun at the break of day,
Strode off for my garden to catch early ray.

Bare toes were tickled by the dew-laden lawn,
Which danced with the light of a vernal, May dawn.

I lazed on a lawn chair with my face to the sun,
Rejoicing in how this spring day had begun.

Robins were singing as they pecked at the ground,
Their chattering chirp was the cheeriest sound.

Orioles sang greetings from leaf-budding trees,
Blossoming flowers were abuzzin’ with bees.

~*~

While communing with Nature ~ I was reborn,
For spring had sprung in me, this sunny May morn.

“Happiness is a state of mind.
Think happy! ~ Be happy!”

Love this Linda, but the active tense (head) trips me up in the second line.  'arise' would change th stanza to present tense but the rest is in past tense.

Still loved it though, your poetry always carries me with you into the mood...

"spring has sprung in me"  this is the coup d'état...   I love this play on words,

Ivor

The moment created this second, is a  moment that's going to last.
It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past.

Good May mornin', Ivor!

Yes, I kept rewriting that line but I was hoping I could get away without the added beat of "ed" at the end of head.

Anyhoo, your suggestion caused me to re-assess that line, and I think the changes I made are for the better.

Thank you for your comments and may your spring be a glorious one!

Linda

Startime ~

Where I live, the sun is not as intense at this time of the year. I find it's gentle rays, very soothing ~ and healing.

May your spring be a happy one!
