I am a teachers aide
At a High School
I work with kids
That have disabilities

But I have some kids
That give me a hard time
Now to tell you
Of the 3 trouble makers

Chris is an annoying,
All he does is talk back
He calls me turkey leg
On my nerves he does get

He must always be rude
When I am trying to work with Tim
I tell him to be quiet
And he says, "You shut up".

Second, is Dominic
He is a royal pest
And always touches girls
And tries to start fights with the other students

Third would be Keith
I can not stand to work
With this here child
He is rude, crude and disrespectful

He likes to call me and the teacher
Things like cheese and roadie
And he likes to disturb the other kids
While they try to do their work

Every week since the beginning
Of the new semester
I have dealt with these students abuse
And I am about sick of it

The teacher won't let me
Write referrals on them
I am about ready
To dern quit

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

hugs do help. Also the fact that the kids get out for summer break in 4 weeks is another thing that keeps me going. But some days I just do not want to go to work.

I agree, some don't!  Yet, there are some who do, and others who just don't know how to show it.

I think we are sometimes offended because some communicate differently.  I remember visiting a friend at his home.  I couldn't believe the language, name calling, and rebutals between the adults (some highly educated, even) and children.  To me, all were speaking very disrespectfully to one and other, but when observing, I noticed in their eyes that they were just B.S.ing.  Each was just trying to get a reaction from the other.  In fact, when I watched their non-verbals, I saw bits of affection with pats on the rump, gentle grasps of shoulder, etc.

Still, I can understand why you want to write referrals on them!  Hang in there, there are just a few more weeks...

I felt sorry for you.

you shall change job.

To be honset,  a daughter of one of my friends worked in NC at a very bad school district for 20 years and she loved her students. she has whole heart sympathy for her students.
Poem or not, you shall not talk about your students here in public,  true name or not.

When I was in grade school I reduced more than one teacher to tears.

They bothered me.

With three family members in the teaching profession, I would say that for the most part, children treated WITH respect ... give respect in return~

Ever give thought to the possibility that you might be in the wrong profession ?

Working with children, ESPECIALLY those with disabilities, takes a special kind of person~

And, I do believe that the students privacy act would not allow any instructor to refer to them by their real names, so I do hope that Keith is "made up" !

Thank goodness, for those students, the school year is close to being over~

I have to agree with Marge Tindal 100% on her posting.  As a parent, and now grandmother, I would be horrified to read such a thing written with my child or grandchild's name in it, and especially done by a teacher or teacher's aid.  I do completely understand your frustration, but to list the children's names in definitely a "no-no" for darn sure!  As our dear Oprah always states, being a teacher or a parent is the hardest job in the world, and one that requires the patience of Job.

Having worked with children with disabilities in my lifetime even though a long time ago, I found there were people who took it on that should never have been in that position.  I have to say with all due respect, I believe you to be one of those after reading your poem, if it is a true life experience.  Perhaps you had best find yourself another job that suits you, as these children need love, support and understanding more than anything else.

I took the last name out. Forgot about the privacy act. But these are real children that drive me insane everyday. Chris actually hits me. But I like my job too much to get in trouble.
