Is not a word an arrow,
to pierce the darkest veil?
And not a book the archer’s bow,
to arrow’s shaft impale?
Or perhaps a word is but a brick,
to craft a fortress strong,
With a book as its foundation,
to house, to guard agelong.
What befalls if words are not,
and books do not exist?
Doth the veil remain unpierced,
ensconced in parlous mist?
Do parapets collapse in ruin,
unto the plain below,
Foundations sink into the ages?
I hope to never know.

how interesting!
words and books. Book is printed form of the words. If no book, there are words. If no words there are tunes...music sheet...where is the poem's resting place.
plus I never remeber authurs's name
so, book? is not.
but knowledge? yes.

enjoyed reading your beautiful poem.

You made me think of the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. Knowledge of the ancient world destroyed by fire ...

If the word is not and the books are not ... and if all the modern technological means of conservation of the words would be destroyed, what and how would we remember?
