Now come back the Spanish fort
Whose guns looked out toward old San Juan

There are pelicans in the harbor
They dive in the water occasionally coming
Up like magic with a fish or two

In a corner bar
The long past her prime proprietor
Is still singing choruses to jukebox tunes
Current in nineteen forty one

And where is Ruby who left her kids at home
And in a crimson dress not particularly Caribbean
Patrolled the streets for a night of fun

The soldier’s bride from Illinois
Who far away from her meadow butterflies
Yet had them fluttering in her dreams

John, your poems are good. A single poem can contain scenes, story, feelings, life, culture, history and geography. very rich. very poetic and very romantic in broad meaning.

You like to write woman who has

"The long past her prime proprietor"

but

"Who far away from her meadow butterflies
Yet had them fluttering in her dreams"

beautiful. very beautiful.

aging brews full-bodied emotions.

enjoyed as always.
