Days go by
I'm still alone
unemployed and
scared to bone.

What am I going to do now?
Who am I today exactly?
Monday...days go by,
with a matter-of-factly
attitude that I don't care for
and I lost Friday there
when I opened another bottle
and sat to stare
out a window on blowing sea oats,
out of place like me,
days go by,
who am I to be?

Still alone
and unemployed
what or who
can fill this void?

I'm not who I used to be...
I wait for a call for an interview,
still alone, days go by,
and I'm still missing you.

passing,
Days, weeks and years go by and they use no wings to fly.

I know this feeling and I feel for you. A great read.

you are Dixie
a damn fine woman

the woman who showed me that
though life gets tough
it's doable

that's who you are!

fine emotive 'reality/truth' write!
[As one battling 'age discrimination'; etc.
big time...I can especially 'relate' to
this!]  I often tend to 'hide' in poetry
from the 'way of the world'...I'm glad
someone has the courage to write
about 'reality' so directly and effectively!

Haven't been alone for a really long time, my friend (30 some years), though I remember those days very well. Went without a job for a year or so a few years back - I remember that REALLY well.

None of it's fun. Not a bit of it is wished for or wanted.

I do remember the feeling . . . and the feelings.

My heart, my friend...my heart to you.

jimmy

...and I ALWAYS look forward to reading you.

I understand this so very well... for even having a job doesn't give structure to a life when your last two lines define it...

Big hugs, my friend... Some times just sap our strength... but you are strong... so strong. Remember that. *S*

Excellent write!

your words are always so real, and I can't help but feel sometimes I am looking into a mirror...
