Listening to every heart

The Muse Taps

Nothing shared out loud, just thoughts
bouncing between gray matter.

Admired the last of winter’s snow
but souls cringed when temps dipped,
and 18 degrees bit the fledgling rose,

the burgeoning fruits,

even wheat fields lay down in
devastated supplication.

Farmers, having prayed for rain,
their fields now receiving moisture
from sources heavy skies didn’t provide.

Accounts reviewed, revised,
a farmer lays down his head
in distraught appeal.

Robins feed on fat worms,
a red-headed woodpecker
sings his new song.

A new morning’s hope begins,
revisions to plans and reprocess,
taking stock of stock,

Where new calves suckle at their mother’s teat,
away from water standing
in the fields,
as highway passersby wonder if
the drought is broken.

The limp roses await a careful hand.
Cattle will graze on the wheat fields before
the plow turns the loss.

The red-headed woodpecker
finds a new note,
and returns to a muse, tapping.

" It matters not this distance now  " Excerpt, Yesterday's Love

Sometimes the weather just won't do what we want and all over the world it's looking strange - but there's nothing strange about this beautiful work.

Oh my Karilea..this sure fits the kind of weather we've been having.
Hope it warms up soon...and dries up a wee bit too.
Luv & hugs, Nancy

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart..
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul.

Beautiful writing Karilea.
