Kethry challenged me to write a sestina. She should probably have known better.  Judge for itself.  What it lacks in consistent meter it makes up for in incomprehensibility.

As the Firelight Dies

Clip the yarn
and toss a coin-
rings like song
in a pilgrim’s tale.
Watch it spin:
gold so rare,

like burnished tears.  Rare,
like scarlet yarn:
watch it spin.
Drop a coin,
I’ll tell a tale
and sing a weaver’s song,

a griever’s song,
a bird of rare
and varied plume. A tale,
a yarn,
worth a coin.
Watch it spin,

watch it spin,
and sing a reaver’s song.
A rover’s coin
from faraway, and precious rare.
Tie up the yarn
with the tale,

the crimson tale,
watch it spin.
Die the yarn
to suit the song,
scarlet, rare,
like a coin

that’s spent for love. A coin
from pirate’s treasure tale,
like virgin blood, warm and rare.
Watch it spin.
An old rogue’s song,
a sailor’s tale.

It’s rare, the coin
that buys a yarn, a weaver’s tale:
Watch it spin a reaver’s song.

Nan,
I still say you do sestinas with style and without the grind the ties them to the ground. I like the rewrite very mauch. It has a lovely flow and sings to me.

a good commitee can decimate communication.

Only two reads is not enough to share the magic of this spiniing tale, so BTTT.
