sitting on the backdeck at midnite

i touched the moon tonight
sat out on the backdeck at
midnite

i always sit here at midnite

i've touched moons snows
rains light heavy thunders
so loud make you deaf

i always sit here at midnite

longtime ago she was six a
beautiful daughter loved all
of life she spread it out that
way gave us all such reason
for being she our sun moon
and stars all wrapped in one
bundle of innocence'n'love

did i forget to mention?

i always sit here at midnite

my job my wife's job seemed
it all fit made sense had just
the right amount of balance
it all fit like a glove family an
absolutely priceless natural
way about it God she was it
the core of all of us

till he came along

he happened by on the inter
state and saw her playing a
little girl in her fenced-in back
yard having fun with her day

every day was her day which
made it our day every day oh
how everyday was our day

so while we went about our
business carrying on this evil
monster called male human
being pulled off the highway
to start his plans to take the
road, HIS road, to hell

only he was going to take
her with him

on the day in question our
little one was out playing on
the swingset in the backyard

i had gone inside to answer
the phone my wife had gone
to the store for groceries the
routine of it would bore you
if you had no family but this
was just plain wonderful

a weekend with everything
and everyone so normal all
was so really simple normal

and i made a mistake
a mistake that would
murder my soul blow
my heart's flame out
never to be relit not
now not ever never

two minutes
all it took
over the fence
raced in behind
her grabbed her
over the fence a
perfect snatch'n'
grab car waiting

missing

gone

i walked outside
so full of normal
and wanting to
start the week
end barbecue all
for a beautiful
day with family

i saw an empty
swing barely
moving in the
back and forth
i saw the gate
shut i saw the
grass picture
routine but the
picture was

missing

someone

she was gone
i was calling her
name my wife
got home had
the groceries

and forget them
so fast when she
saw my face the
panic the fright

long and short of
it many days and
nights of searching
volunteers police a
local state fbi there
was no letup

and she was gone

my heart turned to
granite to cold brick
to broken shambles
to shattered nerves
to raging blood flow

with nowhere to go
with it no one to aim
for to grab it was at
this point my wife
snapped broken of
spirit and life she
took her life on the
backdeck one shot
to the side of her
beautiful head now
so full of grief and
guilt gone mad

been a long time a
nightmare never to
end and i come out
on this deck every
nite at midnite to
peer into the dark

the eternal dark
the black of death

crying
exploding with grief
for both of them to
walk out of the dark
back into my light a
fading light but she
would need to know
i was here no matter
what i would be here
waiting for her when
she got home

can't look at the inter
state anymore won't
touch the swingset

but i always find my
way to the backdeck
at midnite

waiting for who will
never come never
come back again
to call me daddy
to love me wife
to laugh giggle
share all days
all ways kind
no way this
could but
it did all
i have
now
is

sitting on the backdeck
at a midnite eternal as
black as black can and
will ever be...

Welcome to Pip! Your heartwrenching, well written first poem shortened my breath. This is really too much to bear even for the strongest hearts!

Margherita, there is a LOT
more where this came from.

our kids need our help to be
safer now more than ever, not
just from terrorists who fly
jets into tall buildings but
from the terrorists in our own
communities:

drug-dealers
sex-offenders
gangs
child abductors

thank you for your response,

thank you, Startime55

your comments hit a nerve with me.  the innocents pay such a high price because the majority is either too apathetic to the terrorism our children face or simply don't care about anyone but themselves.

throwing innocent kids to the vultures'n'vipers is far more than a felony.

thank you for your compassion and caring.

Hello. I'm trembling so much from reading your gut-wrenching tale, that I can barely key a reply. Is this your story? ~ or is it just a compassionate piece of writing about the plight of innocent children?

Your first post certainly packed a punch! You are quite the raconteur! Totally engaging and vividly descriptive.

Giving you a warm, welcoming hug,
Earth Angel

I found your first post to be written
in such a way that I could not leave it.

Where line breaks were set, where the arrow
of pain began, all of it worked for me.

Welcome to Passions.  And while you got the
story straight out, I certainly hope it was
not the actual case of your own family.

Because we do read it in the news far too
often, and your insight on the personal side
was far too painful...

well done.

Please, check your email for a very Special Greeting.

Welcome to PIP,
what a great entrance, pulling our heartstrings.

A voice for the innocent children!
