Like being shot, my father still can knock me down with his words.

I have merely only wanted to be worthy
To be enough
To measure up
To be his pride
Even as an adult, he still throws a mean potshot
Distance
Time
Are not enough, for his misspoken words to cut,
To demean
To belittle
To maim
To remind
What I have fought so hard to hide from.
Pain
Self Loathe
Anger
Inadequate
When will I be enough in his eyes?

Jen~
There is tremendous ache in this ... the only advice I can offer is the fact that there comes a time in our lives that we don't stand still so the 'shots' hit us ... we turn and let them bounce off ... hard to do, but harder to allow someone to continue to wound you~

Sounds to me like perhaps it's time for you to tell him to cut it out ... and then ... don't take it anymore~

Great grandmother said that others only do to us what we 'let' them do ... there is still a lot of wisdom in her words~

Stand tall and be proud of yourself, focus your decisions on going forward in life ... and let his negativity fall away from you~

Be enough in your OWN eyes ... and keep that chin up~

I left my father when I was 17, on a Greyhound bus. And never looked back. He gave my mom the gun she used to kill herself when I was 10. I hate him. That's a good feeling to have, I think.

Please yourself in life Jen...forget about the rest of them. They won't go with you when you leave this earth.

Yes, you say it with your title, it is like being shot, when those words fall like swords.

Your worthiness and beauty are independent from your father's opinion. Love yourself, you are God's child and as such you are EVERYTHING, not only ENOUGH!

Strong, emotional piece.

Love,
Margherita

"my father still can knock me down with his words."

We must be siblings.
