~It’s impossible
here in the standing still of time
to not reflect on the years
this life we’ve led
together~

I listen to the waters rush
and remember my own hurry
wanting everything all at once
my ignorance then of the journey

now I watch our oldest
in that same hurry
not understanding that the bends in the river
are some of life’s sweetest spots
that she should slow long enough
to linger in the light
and let the water prune her toes
just a little bit
before the current carries her
too far away,  too quickly

I hope in her stone stepping
she remembers
you can’t always see the slime
on the rocks you think
will be the best footing
when you try to reach
the other side

sometimes the best you can do
is jump in and wade a bit
swim a bit, float when you can
and when a hand is held out from solid ground
take it.

oh Sea,
it has certainly been way to long since I've read one of your compositions....this gave me a fresh new crisp feeling...richly filled with family and self awareness mixed with self exploration, you make the reader smile, remembering...how we are not to different beings in our emotions, fondness and care for our loved ones......hugs and thank you for this fabulously constructed time piece.

Hi, SEA! Whenever I click on a title of yours, I know that I am in for a fine poetic treat!

"...the bends in the river
are some of life’s sweetest spots
that she should slow long enough
to linger in the light"

Those lines alone, were worth the read!!! I absolutely love them! Actually, the entire poem is worthy of quoting!

Loving Light 'n a big, warm hug,
EA

So beautiful Susan..
and they do grow up so fast.

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart..
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul.
