Some people glide effortlessly across their yard
with wide grins like the grille of a '57 Chevy.
I, on the other hand,
struggle with my super-charged mower.
It has to be force fed each inch of my yard
like a reluctant dragon on a change of diet.
I sweat..my mower drips oil..
for hours each weekend.

One section at the back of the house
has some kind of buffalo grass,
lush and moist,
planted long ago by some fool
who laughs maniacally in a madhouse somewhere
while my mower and I chew and chew
at his creation.

I have seen some women mowing,
their large posteriors a counterbalance
that must make the job easier somehow.
Potbellied me has no such advantage.
But I toil on with my mower and my weeder
and my clippers and my blower..
defending my manhood.

Hee Hee -- wonderful!  Great big smile on my face now ... I am only glad I live in an apartment and don't have to mow!

Yeppers, that time of year is coming around again in my neck of the woods, as well! I guess I'm one of those who have the "counter-balance" thing going ~ which I work to my full advantage! lol

I love the down-to-earth, folksy way you write. It has a Will Rogers feel to it. I not only read your poetry ~ I experience it! It is so vividly descriptive!

Happy trails! lol
