It streams down, it teems round
And mounts up filling – soaking-
The knotted vines uptwisting
Reaching out their green-cups catching
A soft-fall of ambrosial shower.
Full clusters squeeze their way out
From a thousand supple twig-ends -
Bursting with a goodness swelling
With a living juice of earth and sky.
Drain a draught of light untainted
Honeyed lifeblood of the air
Distilled from all the life around them
Pregnant from the soil and sun.

We've recently received the kind of rains
that would bring on such an onslaught of
growth; it's been wonderful, and inspiring,
to know we won't enter April, dry.

This was lovely, Joshua.  Thank you.

Great write.  I loved the style in your writing.  It reminds me of what will come in a few weeks to my town.

How lovely - peaceful flow to it, too.

And Joshua and Karilea?? - send me some of that rain! We haven't had rain for most of the winter and none at all for almost 2 months now, and it is so dry that one spark can take out thousands of acres in no time.

When we have drought like this, your poem is like a prayer!

The shower I meant was actually a "shower" of sunlight caught by the "green cups" of the leaves - but I can see how it would seem like I was speaking of rain - that's one subject that has always rung in close to this farm boy's heart - thanks for your kind words everyone.

Like the other ‘vineyard’ writes,
this is excellent!

I particularly loved ‘imagery’
such as:

“Reaching out their green-cups catching
A soft-fall of ambrosial shower.”

and:

“Drain a draught of light untainted
Honeyed lifeblood of the air
Distilled from all the life around them
Pregnant from the soil and sun.”

once again, MUCH applause!
