A pen, a pen, if but I had a pen,
Then I would write, I surely would, I would.
Perhaps an ode of damsals way back when,
With knights of olde, of evil versus good.

May be a tale of cowboys on the trail
To Abilene, with six-guns on their hips,
And at trail's end awaits Bill Hickcock's jail,
Rot-gut to drink; a Rose with painted lips.

Perchance I'd pen of twilight skies above,
Of vespertine, sweet songs of Terpsichore,
To say to you, you are my one true love,
Within my arms, to dance cross heaven's floor.

Yes I would write, if but I had a pen,
But I do not, alas, I have no pen.
