Outside the courthouse window
sits a row of once proud mansions
long since abandoned by their patriarchs
to the beck of steel sided suburbia
subdivided and apartmentalized
into honeycombs
filled with unwed mothers
and runny nosed offspring
whom are ever destined to remain
beneath the Courthouse window-
down on Sherman Street

An apt sketch of so many older towns both large and small, epitomizing the decay and waste of both stone and flesh.
