Where no tyranny is tolerable

Chicago
(as seen through the eyes of a kid in Appalachia, South Texas, festering in the humid heat of late November)
It is not hard to imagine
that, before the first day of Creation,
when the Earth was dark, and void,
He had to do this one thing first,
and He created Chicago.
But to the Hebrews,,
an agrarian, pastoral peaceful people ...
what could they have made of the roaring ... and the light ...
the thundering ... the trembling earth ... and the pollution?
And if they could have seen rail cars without wings
flying by themselves pel mell through the air?
It could only have been magic to them,
just the snarling and demanding voice of their Yaveh.
More than the Big Apple
more than the Big Easy,
more even than the City of the Angel by the sea,
Chicago,
that monstrous, tumultuous gaudy place,
Chicago,
the life blood, the very pulse beat of middle America.
Chicago,
where the extraordinary and the ordinary may co-exist together.
Chicago,
the jangle of its languages
the riot of its colors.
Where else in America could a local mayor pompously pronounce
that Chicago police officers were there to presser disorder,
and were simultaneous being ordered by that same Mayor
to billy club young kids in the street?
I think it was the 4th of July ...
A may playing his guitar ...
a man selling ice cream,
singing Italian songs ...
What would it be like to buy his ice cream,
to listen to his song?
And maybe he could teach me some Italian.
And maybe I could tell an unsuspecting world
of this Earthy GUGSY and beautifully musical language,
and of its people----
of their wine and laughter
of their irrepressible zest for music and for living,
and for making love ...
I did promise myself not to do this,
to stop writing, just stop ...
stop dueling with this metal monster for a while.
it's Saturday ...
in the park? ...

And yes, this WAS inspired by Janete
it's Saturday

Jaime, you are able to see more than most people who have the advantage of 20 / 20 vision! You are amazing!

Your poetry is so unique and creative ~ just like you!
