Lost Love
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

As specks of gold glittered in an ebony sky,
I dreamt of my lost love who bade me good-bye.
On the emerald shore of a fair lowlands loch,
Whilst baaing white woolies around us did flock.

The heather did sway in the earthy, spring breeze.
And the day had been one of both harmony and ease.
As we lay amongst flowers, I soon saw in his eyes,
A far-away look ~ to my chagrin and surprise.

His demeanor had changed, in what seemed but an instant.
He became cool and aloof ~ and ever so distant.
I queried the reason, and he then did impart,
That another fair lassie had captured his heart.

It felt as tho’ nor’winds had sucked out my soul.
I was shattered inside and feared losing control.
But somehow I knew that I would be fine,
For the spirit within me would continue to shine.

In lieu of protesting and pounding his chest,
I proclaimed that our parting wouldst be for the best.
It was he who then showed his utter surprise,
As he saw the strength in my steady, green eyes.

I turned and bestowed him a sweet buss on the cheek.
He appeared rather puzzled and suddenly meek.
I wished him well, as I rose from the grass,
Saying, “May you be happy with your new bonnie lass.”

I head ‘cross the heather with my head held high,
Which belied the sadness and tears I did cry.
As I stifled the rise of a wailing banshee,
The sun broke thru’ clouds and shone upon me.

As specks of gold glittered in an ebony sky,
I dreamt of my lost love who bade me good-bye.
On the emerald shore of a fair lowlands loch,
Whilst baaing white woolies around us did flock.

Superb ‘write’ !.....

and...in my ever-most-humble opinion, Scotland is the most beautiful
place on Earth! (I truly lost my heart to that 'bonnie lass' of a nation!).....
[As a geologist, poet?!, and ‘imager’ (of Celtic ancestry), I especially
love the western highlands (Glencoe  specifically)]

I  particularly LOVED the following:

“ As specks of gold glittered in an ebony sky,
I dreamt of my lost love who bade me good-bye.
On the emerald shore of a fair lowlands loch,
Whilst baaing white woolies around us did flock.

The heather did sway in the earthy, spring breeze.
And the day had been one of both harmony and ease.
As we lay amongst flowers, I soon saw in his eyes,
A far-away look ~ to my chagrin and surprise ”

And I so loved this strenght and pride, that might have made him wonder if he made the right choice.LOL

this was perfect in words and feelings...

I loved it and it made me smile remembering those exact feelings and actions

Hi, martyjo! This poem is loosely based on a "Lost Love" experience of mine. My reaction to his devastating profession, had its desired effect and I maintained my composure and dignity! ~ and the sun continued to shine!

Lady Kate ~

At times we women have more strength and class than we give ourselves credit for. Many a man has tried to lord it over the fairer sex and  sling arrows into our trusting, loving hearts.

Thank you for your wonderful response!

Aye, ya are a blessing indeed, indeed…
But to think your love would ever say goodbye?
No way!  I would bonk him upside the head with the “Blarney Stone”
He would be in a pickle for the rest of his life.

Excellent write, EA...
