She Rambles

Before the rose bloomed, there was green
and then sometimes turquoise memories
against a lift of gray salty fog

where those very memoir’d shimmers
were brought into that old 1960’s kitchen
of her long ago childhood,
when the family’s laughter simmered over navy beans
the ham hock falling off the bone
and the black iron skillet holding hot, sweet cornbread;

so that now, when she was introduced
to an induced [perhaps prayed for] relief from
society’s haves, where she once shifted with need,
wanting her own time, but skirted streets with blinders
each day in tempered time, held taut with the needs
of others self-righteous, greed-filled desires

she now awakes with nowhere to go,
except to some peace, with her own plans
yet to be birthed;
where she awaits with hope
for the rose to bloom
against the green and some again times
of turquoise memories
against a lift of a lost gray

but if she breathes in deeply,
even landlocked in the driest part of Kansas,

she can still smell the foamy salt
and feel the swirling tinge
that awakens her to life,
again.

Part I of a Trilogy

Lovely feeling to this Kari, damp with the dusk of evening.  The kitchen of the 60's was a great scene.

"where she awaits with hope

and even in the driest part of Kansas
the rose will bloom

so lovely and poignant Karilea...

Sissie

Ham hocks and beans....now you got me wanting to go grocery shopping. Yum!  But there is much that is deeper and cooked longer within this poem.  The fragrance bubbles, and it smeels good!

"she now awakes with nowhere to go,
except to some peace, with her own plans
yet to be birthed;"

I know this lovely feeling.

This fine piece of nostalgic writing conjured up a few "turquoise memories" for me as well.

I loved the warmth, scents, and visuals of this captivating poem ~ and I am anticipating the parts II & III of the this trilogy!

I hope this ‘reply/comment’ post brings this ‘write’ back to page 1
of the ‘P.I.P.’ forum # 40  queue with Part II  of the ‘trilogy’....

a lot of fine imagery in this poem, such as:

“Before the rose bloomed, there was green
and then sometimes turquoise memories
against a lift of gray salty fog”

and:

“she can still smell the foamy salt
and feel the swirling tinge
that awakens her to life,
again.”

applause!!
