How do you draw inside the sky?
Is there a color, whisper, or wing
of energy … a sigh?
A startled bluebird on a twig,
shredding seeds;
they fall like sawdust as he watches.
How do you put form to that?

A leaf is curling in a river
drought-gifted with rocks.
Ducks find the only water
and circle until dizzy around the ripple.
Laugh with me it’s almost spring.

The earth’s quiet scream
is most restless at night
when I dream;
not telling the pattern,
blotted, forgotten, lost;
probably just an ordinary three words.

But I have never spoken before,
or snored like some loud humming bird,
awake and sipping nectar from the heart.
I have not repeated when asked,
as though any idiot should know,

earth’s quiet scream.

Still, the morning glory is creeping,
uncaring of the things it covers;
one could say careless
of the drying grapevine.
-------

Earth's quiet scream...three words I spoke in my sleep the other night.  I thought they must have been part of a poem I was writing while asleeep, but I only knew those three words, until today.

I am so glad you waited, in your quiet way, to hear the song again. This is simply a marvel.

Beautiful, Martie!  And I do believe that the earth is screaming.  We perhaps should have listened to the sighs when there was still time for a remedy ... but the earth has many parts in individual practice before they all scream together.  Does that mean that there is hope?  Of course.  There's always hope!  Great write as usual!

Listening to every heart

Because the temperatures are moderate, I had the windows open since 2:00 a.m., and around 7:00 a.m., I heard something I hadn't heard before, or if I had, wasn't able to take note of.  But there sat the red-headed woodpecker...not pecking in search of food, but singing his wonderful song.

I had never heard
a woodpecker sing...

and its marvel reminded me of your comments
from the other day, of this very piece.

Now how is that for connection?

Dear Martie,
I will laugh with you as it's almost spring.
But the earth does quietly scream.

Earth's quiet scream,
to the ear of dream,
with the words only known
to soul of poetic theme.

Martie...Beautiful dreams and poem. Thanks for sharing both with us.
I did that once. I had been trying to write a poem for my two grand daughters for a couple of months with no success and woke up from a sound sleep and knew every word that I had been trying so hard to write. It took me about ten minutes to jot it down and I went back to sleep...Paul

This is beautiful....and well written. Earths Quiet Scream could wake us in the night, if we listened closely enough, like a language more powerful than words. I like this alot. I think I will pass it along, Take Care, JulieAnn

Most beautiful things come from dreams... the wishes that your heart makes. Blessed are those who recall them... even just three words... when they wake. Lovely write Milady.

Aha, Mother Earth was speaking to her nature poetess whilst she was sleeping!

Not only do you have 'seeing' eyes, you have the soul and the talent to transform those observations, visions, sensitivities, and  emotions into poetry of the highest caliber!

Happy Spring, Martie Flowers!

To the fine and most appropriate
comments already posted about
this ‘write’ by so many special
‘P.I.P.’ poets [who, like Martie,
have prodigious talents quite
far beyond mine]....

I shall add....simply GRAND!!....
especially:

“How do you draw inside the sky?
Is there a color, whisper, or wing
of energy … a sigh?
A startled bluebird on a twig,
shredding seeds;
they fall like sawdust as he watches.
How do you put form to that?

Laugh with me it’s almost spring.”

I AM smiling and laughing with you (AND
Spring), Martie!
