The scent of your hair gently wafts my way -
You are close - yet so infinitely far!
Your image in my mind is night and day,
But how to reach and touch a distant star?
The heart is aching, but the mind is weak
And all the space between us is my cell -
To only lift my hand and touch your cheek!
- Is but a dream to dream and within dwell.
Is there love, waiting hidden 'neath the veil
Of distant air? Is the chill of your glance
But a rampart around your soul, the mail
To guard your heart against my only chance?
Oh, you said yes once, but I was a fool,
My tears now at your feet a crystal pool.
