"Memento"

As I stumble upon this place for the first time,
I feel a sense of reunion,
Yet I don't know why?
I feel embraced by this place,
Although I've never been here before.
The dense forest air catches my breath,
And the light that is being held captive by the trees,
Blocks any kind of vision that I may have had.
Familiar sounds smother the air,
A damp murky smell, immediately hits me,
And a cold breeze of air runs up my back,
Making me feel uncomfortable.

As I proceed cautiously into the forest,
My eyes quickly scan everywhere,
Unfamiliar surrounds make me feel nervous,
Yet there is something so familiar about this place.
My heart begins to race,
My palms become sweaty,
Making it impossible to hold what I have in my hand.
I step forward and……,
All of a sudden behind me,
A quick movement,
It's too late,
I've been found!

Suddenly there's an unusual sound,
Quickly followed by immense pain,
A sharp pain runs across my chest.
And as I turn around to face my fate,
I now understand why I'm here,
I look at the figure standing before me,
A wave of intense emotion passes over me and I smile.
Placing my hands in the air I feel alive for the first time,
No longer in captivity, but free.
I shout at the top of my voice,
And as I fall to the floor,
Blood coating everything that I lay upon,
I look into the dark for the last time,
Finding it hard to control my breathing,
I gaze upon a break in the trees,
My eyes fixed and completely focused,
I see a beautiful light,
So clean and so pure.
A tear starts to roll down my face,
I'm so scared,
But it all makes sense,
Now I remember,
I know why I'm here,
This is the place where I once died.

I'm sure many people read but don't reply since they might not know what to say

James, I read this the first time you posted it as I can bet others did too

sounds like a very strange experience...one that I have never had myself, so I guess I haven't died yet. Don't know.

What else is there to say? There's not much structure to it...seems more like you are describing walking through a dream than poetry...it just kinda goes on and on and doesn't seem to have much of a point to me, maybe because I don't understand dying twice or even dying once and remembering it

let me just say, and I hope it doesn't deter you from writing but, this is not one of your good ones here
